Coming Back to See Through, Again

Saturday. July 15. 2023

After exploring the Sawtelle area, my friends and I decided to venture over to the lively Hollywood area. Our destination was the renowned David Zwirner gallery. One of my friends had highly recommended checking out Njideka Akunyili Crosby’s exhibition, titled “Coming Back to See Through, Again.” This sparked our curiosity, so we eagerly made our way to the gallery, excited to experience Njideka Akunyili Crosby’s artwork.

“Blend in - Stand out”

As I stepped into the exhibition, I was immediately struck by the rich textures and vibrant colors of Akunyili Crosby’s pieces. The majority of her paintings were created using acrylics and colored pencils, and the level of detail and the seamless layering were truly captivating. As I moved from one painting to the next, I couldn't help but marvel at how she intricately wove together various elements.

What particularly fascinated me was her talent for transforming everyday scenes into captivating collages. People, plants, and objects converged in a way that celebrated the beauty of the ordinary, inviting viewers to see them in a whole new light. It was a truly gratifying experience to witness Akunyili Crosby's unique artistic vision come to life in such a vivid and compelling way.
