Utah Museum of Contemporary Art

Friday. October 6. 2023

During my trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, I had set aside a whole day to explore the lively Downtown area. After our visit to the impressive Utah State Capitol, Steven and I eagerly made our way down the hill towards the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA). UMOCA sat snugly next to the Salt Palace Convention Center right in the heart of Downtown Salt Lake City. Its location made it incredibly easy for us to find.

The main entrance of the museum

“Artemis” by Chie Fueki

“A Substitute for You” by Vanessa Romo

“Big Puzzle, Grownup, Little Puzzle, Kid” by Rachel Stallings Thomander

“Star Map” by Richard Gate

“Compression Set” by Ben Sang

“Green Stripe” by Ben Sang

“When Nature Spoke to the Nuche(Ute’s)” by Valentina Sireech

Although it turned out to be a bit smaller than what I had imagined, I was pleasantly surprised by how they arranged the displays. Each section and space were clearly marked, creating a pleasant and easy stroll through the museum. The lighting inside was just perfect, allowing me to see the artworks clearly and appreciate them even more. The museum featured a wonderful collection of captivating pieces that caught my eye and held my interest from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed all the exhibitions they had on display.

A great art installation by Aaron T Stephan is located in front of the Salt Palace Convention Center, next to UMOCA
